Feb 10th: Maureen and Ian are back!

Due to the political unrest occurring in Kenya, what started out as a family trip to Kenya for the holidays, turned into an 8 week humanitarian mission for Maureen and Ian. They returned last week, and Maureen has written a letter to all of us to share a bit of their experirences while there. Click on the link to read more: Maureen's Letter

The Orphanage is now open!

This endeavor is a huge undertaking for the charity, but due to the increasing number of our students being orphaned, a few years ago it became clear to Maureen that something had to be done. After to three years of work, 2 choir tours, countless lengths of red tape, and thousands of donations, the orphanage is now complete! The ribbon cutting ceremony was held in December, 2007 we are now housing several children. Follow the link for more details: Orphanage

Kenya turmoil

Maureen and several of her family spent the Christmas holiday in Kenya with the families and children. The tail end of their stay coincided with the political turmoil that has enveloped the entire country of Kenya. Many of you have expressed concern for the children and their families, the schools, and for Maureen and her family. They are all safe. Our little village area has not been affected by the violence, so far, and we hope and pray that will remain to be true. Maureen's family returned back to the United Kingdom this past weekend (Jan 6th), however Maureen is remaining in Kenya for an additional two weeks to ensure the school and the children are taken care of. As Kenya has a very unstable infrastructure for food and supplies, although our children have not suffered the violence, there have been supply shortages and sky-rocketing prices for food and other such necessities. Maureen has reported that the shortages are lessening, however, she felt it best to remain behind and protect our interests.

Thank you all for your continued concern and support. More information will be posted as it becomes available. In the meantime, keep them all in your prayers.

Secondary School Update

The cost of building has escalated in the last 18 months, and cement has now doubled. We are now having to pay around £5 per bag, which has slowed things down a lot. Heather Munroe, one of our sponsors, worked really hard on a bid proposal to Virgin Airways who have agreed to support our charity in 2008!! We hope to benefit around £50,000 from this towards the second half of the year, which should allow us to finish the Secondary School. This news made a great Christmas Day present for Maureen!
