The Orphanage is Complete!
From the days when
Maureen dreamed of building an orphanage, to the reality of having children
living
in it!
The new building will accommodate twenty children who will be in care of our
house mother, Helen. Helen is a very caring individual who has already raised
two orphaned babies she found in a dust bin fourteen years ago. Not only
are we responsible for the housing the children, but also
for their general welfare, education, clothes, medical bills, food,
and any other necessities. It's a big responsibility, but with your help,
we are up to the task!

to dig the dig the foundation using chalked in lines and pick axes.

A few days later walls started
to appear.

Ian and Maureen
with Kassim (11yrs),
Swaleh (5yrs),
and Suleman (71/2 yrs), who are three of the
orphans that will be living at the orphanage. These children have no
mother or father and were living in hovel with a grandmother who asked
the village
chief for help as she
could
no longer feed the children. The chief came
and spoke to Maureen, who asked Omari (a kindergarten teacher and
one of our former students) to visit the family. His visit confirmed
they were a desperate case and we have since taken them in and hope that
this
will
be a
happy
home for them. As you can see, all of these children are very small
for their age, and in time we hope to show you how much they have grown
now
that
they
will
have regular nutrition and healthy place to live.

Charo (many of
you will recognize him as one of the choir singers), posing at his new
bunk. Charo is now 13 years old and has already outlived his mother who
died giving birth to him at the shocking age of 12. His
father died soon after Charo was born, and for many years he lived
with his grandmother.
The
grandmother
passed away a couple of years ago and since then, we have taken on the
responsibility of caring for him. Charo is a wonderful young man, very
hard working and humble, and, as you can see, he has a very endearing
smile.

Kache and her
younger brothers will also be living at the orphanage. More on their
story to come soon.

The orphanage
is located next to a residential house and in between the Secondary school
and the Primary School. If you follow the trail to the left (in front
of the tree), that leads in to the Primary School grounds. Around the
right side of the building and to the back is the Secondary School.
